2009 Clarendon Hills Piggott Range Syrah

The Piggott Range is a low yielding, dry grown, pre-phylloxera vineyard planted in 1965 with the vines situated in rock with 2 inches of top soil. Hand picking took place over several passes to ensure optimal ripeness of the fruit. Maturation took place in 100% brand new, tight-grained French oak for a period of 18 months. Super saturated inky black purple colour with very deep black purple hue. The nose takes a little coaxing but opens up to reveal expressive scents of blackpepper, dried meats, liquorice and spice. The Piggott Range ratches up the concentration levels delivering rich expansive liquorice and blackberry flavours followed by some confectionary, a touch of toasty vanilla, blackpepper and spice. Magnificent depth and power. Velvet smooth tannin structure – perfectly integrated with exceptionally long aftertaste of liquorice, blackberry, vanillin spice and pepper aftertaste.
