2009 Chateau Villars
A blend of 77% Merlot, 17% Cabernet Franc and 6% Cabernet Sauvignon. Opaque black crimson colour with deep crimson red hue. The nose exhibits lifted scents of ripe mulberry, dark plum and blackcurrant with an overlay of cedar followed by a hint of spice and earth. A balancing act of richness and elegance the palate delivers flavours of ripe mulberry and blackcurrant followed by some dusty cedar, earthy characters and spice. Dryish finish but fine grained tannin structure. Medium to long mulberry, blackcurrant, earthy cedar and spice aftertaste. An excellent example of the across the board quality available from the 2009 vintage.
Cellar 5-8 years (2017-2020).
Alc 14.0%
Other Reviews….
Opaque purple-colored, this is a relatively structured, tightly knit wine that offers up notes of crushed rocks, black raspberries and hints of black currant and underbrush. It is structured, masculine and medium to full-bodied, with some moderate tannins that still need to be resolved. Forget it for 2-3 years and drink it over the following decade.
