This is the dry white wine of the First Growth Sauternes house 'Chateau Guiraud'. Made from a blend of 70% Sauvignon Blanc & 30% Semillon, it is matured in the used barrels of their Sauternes wine, with fruit primarily sourced from a vineyard that was planted to Sauvignon Blanc by accident around 40 years ago. (For their Sauternes, Guiraud were after a Semillon-heavy cuvee - too much Sauvignon Blanc was not considered the right balance for a sweet wine). Instead of selling off the Sauvignon or re-planting, Guiraud decided to create a special dry white and the “G” was born. This is the best example we've tasted to date from the brilliant 2009 vintage.

A sublime expression of the blend.

Brilliant pale straw colour with watery hue. The nose displays aromas of herbaceous gooseberry, lime and citrus with a light cedar overlay. Quite mouthflling the palate delivers both lively and intense favours of ripe gooseberry and some herbaceous grassy characters followed by a touch of citrus and a spicy finty back palate displaying excellent length. Dry clean crisp fnish with long aftertaste of herbaceous gooseberry, citrus and dried hay.
