An outstanding Coonawarra Shiraz.

Still family owned and operated by Doug and Joy Bowen, this small Coonawarra vineyard has been evolving over the past 36 years and now involves their daughter, Emma. Vintage Conditions: Good seasonal rain during winter ensured excellent canopy development with great soil moisture resulting in a low risk disease and frost growing period. Average temperatures during the growing season saw a return to later picking times. Full ripeness was achieved in all varieties with picking finishing on 24th April, 2009. Matured for approximately 22 months in American oak barriques, of which about one third are new.
The family's Shiraz has been a long time favourite of ours with the recent 2008 & 2009 vintages as good as we've tasted.

Totally opaque, black crimson colour with deep, crimson red hue. Superb, lifted nose of blackberry, liquorice and spice followed by some confectionary and vanilla end notes. There’s certainly nothing shy about this Coonawarra Shiraz. Once again Bowen Estate’s Shiraz delivers a level of concentration and richness that the vast majority of Coonawarra producers seem unable to obtain. Rich and bold, the palate delivers a mouthfilling flavour experience of ripe blackberry, liquorice and blackpepper followed by some confectionary and a trace of vanilla with the blackpepper component persisting onto the back palate. Fine grained tannins with very long blackberry, liquorice and blackpepper aftertaste.
