Winemaker Peter Gambetta is becoming somewhat of a Cabernet Sauvignon specialist, already well regarded for his brilliant efforts in Coonawarra being responsible for the outstanding 2006 Yalumba Menzies and 2006 Yalumba Cigar Cabernets. He is now working on forging a reputation in Australia’s other classic Cabernet producing region – Margaret River. In 2008 Margaret River experienced excellent mild dry vintage conditions from November onwards which resulted in fruit of outstanding quality and fruit intensity. Matured for 13 months in American oak (80% with 25% new oak) and French oak (20%, with 1% new oak), this youthful Cabernet offers remarkable value for money.

A revelation to discover Margaret River Cabernet of this calibre well under twenty dollars!
Opaque black crimson red colour with dark crimson hue. The nose is quite lifted with aromas of mulberry, violets, cedar and cigar box. The palate displays excellent weight with fully ripened flavours of mulberry, blackcurrant and liquorice followed by some spice and cedar. Excellent length. Fine grained well balanced tannins with long aftertaste of ripe mulberry, blackcurrant, cedar and spice.
