Andrew Seppelt developed his winemaking skills working with some of the world's top vignerons: Myron Redford at Amity Vineyards in Oregon, USA.; Stuart Blackwell of St Hallett, Robert O’Callaghan of Rockford and Trevor Jones at Kellermeister to name a few. In 2000 he extended his winemaking experience with a stint at Chateau de Roquefort in Provence before starting Murray Street with Bill & Pattie Jahnke in 2001.

Seppelt believes that the wines of Murray Street are constantly evolving. However, the blending concepts remain constant each year – rich generous wines with regional and varietal characters. Despite the March heat wave and the attention it attracted, according to Andrew Seppelt, the 2008 season demonstrated how management of the vineyard and winemaking approaches can, and must, adapt to extreme conditions. Some like Murray Street vineyards skillfully managed their way through the challenge producing rich wines of great opulence. Others were less successful resulting in high alcohols and over ripe, jammy wines.

Matured for 18 months in a combination of old and new French and American oak. Opaque black crimson colour with very deep black crimson hue. The nose displays perfumed aromas of ripe blackberry, liquorice and confectionary followed by some vanillin end notes. The palate is full bodied delivering ripe lavish flavours of ripe blackberry, liquorice, vanillin confectionary and spice all wrapped up in an opulent texture. Very fine grained tannins. Excellent length with long aftertaste of blackberry, liquorice, vanilla and spice.
Drink over the next 3-4 years (2011-2015).
