Spectacular, opaque, black purple colour with black purple hue. Paint like cling to the glass walls. Lifted nose of fresh blackberry juice, followed by liquorice and spice. The palate has excellent weight and concentration. Flavours of ripe plum, liquorice and blackberry over a vanilla background. Fine grained, perfectly balanced tannins. Very long spicy liquorice and black pepper aftertaste.

Other Reviews.....
Kirrihill is based in the Clare, where it is one of the Valley's largest producers. It sources fruit from that region and the Adelaide Hills. This comes from three Clare vineyards - incidentally from two in the north of the region and one from the southern reaches. Some tastings for Quaff are harder than others and I'm happy to report that this shiraz tasting showed up some very impressive quaffing reds. I found the 2008 Kirrihill Clare Valley Shiraz delightfully aromatic with ripe sweet redcurrant and blackberry flavours, fleshy, almost slippery texture, and balanced fine tannins. There some substance too, so although it's made for early drinking you'll find richness and concentration. Our information said $12.95 but the website says it's $15 a bottle. I'm expecting you'll find it for a good price under $15.

Peter Forrestal - Quaff

A substantial, multi-faceted business, with an 8000-tonne winery making a large range of wines under its own brand, and for others. Very good colour; opens with rich dark fruit aromas, then abundant plum and blackberry fruit on the medium- to full-bodied palate supported by ripe tannins and a modicum of French oak.
