Avignon is essentially the Reserve version of the Stonehorse (offered in the previous version of this newsletter.) The cuvee varies each year depending on what performs best in a given vintage. In 2008 it's a blend of 46% Grenache (70 year old vines), 40% Shiraz (65 year old vines) and 14% Mourvedre (43 year old vines).

Opaque black dark red colour with deep dark crimson red hue. On the nose lifted scents of ripe black raspberry intermixed with liquorice are to the fore followed by some ripe blackberry, dark cherry and spice. Full bodied the palate delivers rich exuberant flavours of black raspberry, black cherry and liquorice followed by a touch of earth and some spice. Fine grained yet sturdy tannin structure lends good support to the generous levels of fruit. Long aftertaste of black raspberry, liquorice, earth and spice.
Cellar 4-5 years (2016-2017).
Alc 15.0%
