If one was going to launch a new Coonawarra label, one couldn't pick a more auspicious vintage to make your mark than 2008. Wine after wine has seen a big return to form offering fully ripened, powerhouse Cabernet profiles with excellent tannin and acididty. So far this is one of the bargains of the vintage.

A prime example of Coonawarra Cabernet at a very affordable price

The fruit for this Cabernet was sourced from the Wetherall property - one of Coonawarra's best kept secrets. The family have been growing grapes for the big boys for decades from Terra Rossa blocks in the heart of Coonawarra, and the big boys have been happily making exceptional Coonawarra Reds without even a whisper as to where the grapes have come from! This wine has been matured in French oak for approximately 18 months. Excellent colour – opaque black dark red with very deep dark red black hue. The nose is a touch restrained upon first sniff but becomes more perfumed as the wine gradually reaches room temperature. Aromas of ripe blackcurrant, violets, cedar, spice and cigar box emerging. Medium to full bodied the palate displays an abundance of rich ripe blackcurrant and cassis flavours followed by some spice and cedar with some cigar box characters emerging on the back palate. Excellent depth with fine grained, slightly firm but balanced tannin structure. Long aftertaste of blackcurrant, spice and cedar.
Cellar 3-4 years (2013-2014)

Other Reviews.....
Excellent crimson colour; flooded with black and redcurrant fruit on the bouquet and medium- to full-bodied palate; persistent tannins run through the back-palate and finish providing a platform for cellaring. Attractive label design reminiscent of the famous Woodley Treasure Chest series. Screwcap.
