Despite the vintage conditions, this years Mt Edelstone still manages to maintain a sense of elegance and refinement, a much welcomed point of difference.

Produced from 90 year old vines, the wine was matured in 90% new, 10% seasoned French (67%) and American (33%) hogsheads for 21 months. Totally opaque black crimson colour with dark crimson red hue. The nose delivers a very perfumed and intense sniff of blackberry, dark plum and dark chocolate followed by some confectionary mocha like characters and spice. Whilst this is one of the most generous Mount Edelstone’s in recent memory the palate is not over the top like many other 2008 South Australian reds.

Rich ripe flavours of blackberry, dark chocolate, mocha, vanillin confectionary and spice all wrapped up in a velvet smooth tannin structure with a sumptuous plush mouthfeel. Superb depth with very long dark chocolate, blackberry, vanilla and mocha aftertaste.
Alc 14.5%

Other Reviews....
Good, strong colour; the cooler climate of the Eden Valley was a godsend in 2008, the old vines also doing their share in producing a Mount Edelstone to stand tall with its layers of fruit, nuances of spice and licorice, and excellent ripe tannins. Shiraz. Drink by 2030.
