A superb Shiraz.

Heartland wines were established in 2002 when Ben Glaetzer, together with a group of wine industry identities saw the opportunity to create a range of exciting wines from 1000 acres of vineyards, which were situated on the Limestone Coast and in Langhorne Creek.

Glaetzer and his team had become disillusioned by the amalgamation of wine companies in Australia, which they felt had begun to produce generic wine styles of little character. He stated “They’re less vibrant, less representative of what Australia offers… I knew I could do better than that.”

Ben Glaetzer is on a roll with his 2008 reds – the Director’s Cut is the best yet, delivering an impressive combination of decadently rich fruit, power and concentration.

A blend of 68% Langhorne Creek and 32% Limestone Coast Shiraz with average yields around 1.5 tonnes per acre. The wine was matured for 14 months in a combination of 80% new French and 20% new American oak barrels.

Outstanding black purple colour with black heart and deep dark red black hue. The nose displays aromas of ripe blackberry, dark plum and liquorice followed by a hint of spearmint as an end note. The palate is decadently rich with a fleshy texture and superb concentration displaying generous flavours of dark plum, blackberry, mocha and spice followed by some spearmint and blackpepper on the finish. Velvet smooth tannins with long aftertaste of blackberry, plum, dark chocolate, spearmint and toasty cedar.
