2008 Geoff Weaver Lenswood Chardonnay

Like other regions, the 2008 growing season in the Adelaide Hills experienced mild temperatures up until March 3rd, when a two week heat wave set in. Thankfully, at Lenswood, harvest took place on the 7th March which meant that the grapes were exposed to little of the potentially damaging heat. Interestingly, the early harvest date didn't relate so much to the warmth of the growing season, but to the warmer than normal winter which meant early budburst, bringing harvest forward two weeks.

Bright pale straw colour with pale straw hue. The nose displays good intensity with toasty yeast lees and bacon fat like characters followed by cashew, melon and spice. The palate displays a complex flavour profile and is driven by winemaker derived flavours. Generous nougat, cashew, spice and confectionary flavours with some yeast lees and toast back palate characters. Rich, creamy texture with dry finish and long aftertaste of nougat, hazelnut and toast.
