Going by the 2008 Coonawarra reds released to date, the vintage is a year to buy up. Ideal weather with a dry summer allowed the vines to rebound better than expected from the frosts that affected the previous vintage. Warm weather in early March brought vintage forward in turn providing winemakers with an extended ripening period allowing the fruit to be picked at optimum ripeness.
This wine was matured in a combination of French and Russian oak. Opaque black dark red colour with deep dark crimson red hue. The nose displays ripe aromas of blackcurrant, spearmint, liquorice and confectionary followed by some cedar background notes showing good intensity. Concentrated mouthfilling flavours of ripe blackcurrant and spice followed by some spearmint and cedar. Excellent depth and structure with fine grained, firmish but balanced tannins. Long aftertaste of blackcurrant, spice and mint.
