Based in Lerwick, Shetland Islands, Blackwood’s aim is to be the most innovative spirits company in the world. The Shetland Islands, lying at the far North of Scotland off the coast of Norway, have an ancient Viking past. Originally settled by the Norse Vikings, today Shetland is part of Scotland. Its far Northern remoteness has strong associations of quality, purity and modernity. It represents a story and a people that are a mix of Scotland and Scandinavia and their tales of daring deeds. Shetland has been a center for sea trade in the North Atlantic for centuries and today its pristine austere landscape is known for its smooth pure water and local produce as well as its famous ponies! Refreshing and richly aromatic, Blackwood's Vintage Gin is reminiscent of the surrounding North Sea in its natural pale green colour. Its infusion of local handpicked botanicals recreates the essence of Shetland in a bottle.

Made with Summer 2003 Wild Shetland Botanicals [vintage subject to change], natural Ingredients include Angelica Root introduced by the Vikings 800 years ago, Wild Water Mint picked from around the lochs for subtle refreshment, Sea Pink flowers gathered during its brief summer flowering, Juniper Berries from Umbria, Dried Lemon and Orange Peels, Cassia Bark, Liquorice Root, Ground Nutmeg, Cinnamon Bark, Orrisroot & Coriander Seeds. Ideal in a gin & tonic, 60% of taste testers voted Blackwood's Vintage Gin as their #1 choice in blind taste tests and 80% placed it in their top two, against Gordon's, Tanqueray, Plymouth and Bombay Sapphire. The producers claim Blackwood's to be a more balanced gin for contemporary tastes and so luscious it can be drunk neat!

Tasting note: Clear. Sweet, delicately floral, ripe citrus and juniper berry aromas follows through to a round, glycerous medium-bodied palate with even juniper, citrus peel, pastry dough, and mineral flavors. Finishes with a dry, somewhat lean, talc, powdered sugar, white pepper, lemon rind, and mineral water fade. A understated style with a nice interplay of subtle botanicals and minerals. 40% Alc./Vol.
