Another outstanding release from St. Hallett, the 2007 Blackwell being the tenth consecutive release scoring above 90 points on the Wine Spider scale, the average rating being 94.1. A remarkable achievement, placing it amongst the most consistent performers of the Barossa

Some of the ‘ignored areas’ of the Barossa have proven to be the source of the best grapes, particularly those vineyards located at the end of Seppeltsfield Road. Here, the age of the vines varies from between 10 and 100 years. Sourcing fruit from such low yielding vineyards gives St.Hallett the scope to express unusual complexity at this price point.

Named after Stuart Blackwell, senior winemaker at St. Hallett since 1973. This is another outstanding release and was a close contender for the front cover of this months Vintage Direct.

A WINE NOW FIRMLY ENTRENCHED AS A BENCHMARK BAROSSA SHIRAZ.

Parcels of fruit for the Blackwell Shiraz are matured in a combination of new, one and two year old American oak for 20 months, with several rackings taking place during that time. Blending occurs a month before bottling and the wine is coarse filtered into bottle to avoid the stripping of flavour and colour.

Opaque black purple crimson colour with deep mauve purple hue. Superb nose – lifted top note of violets, liquorice all sorts, vanilla, blackberry, plum and spice. The palate delivers what the nose promises. Flavours of blackberry, plum, spice and vanilla in an explosive profile. Black pepper fills the back palate. Very fine tannin structure. Exceptionally long aftertaste of vanilla, black pepper and plum.
