Made from a blend of 63% Grenache, 21% Mourvedre and 16% Shiraz, winemaker Peter Schell has produced an outstanding Rhone styled blend. Fruit has been sourced from six different Barossa Valley vineyards – three mature Grenache vineyards (30, 50 and 90 years old) situated in the North and East of the Valley. The majority of the Shiraz was sourced from a Koonunga Hill vineyard (at the northern end of the Barossa Valley) and a younger vineyard on the western extremity of the Valley. Whilst the Mourvedre component of the blend was sourced from two valley floor vineyards, one 90 year old bush vine vineyard in the Koonunga Hill sub-region of the Barossa Valley, the other a younger vineyard in the extreme south of the valley. Yields were a miserly 1 to 2.5 tonnes per acre, which accounts for the wines superb concentration, and maturation took place in seasoned French oak for 14 months.

Superb concentration and weight for Grenache blend at this price.

Deep purple mauve colour with purple mauve hue. The nose is very aromatic and displays good complexity with perfumed notes of ripe plum, liquorice, spice and blackberry followed by a hint of earth. Full bodied rich palate flavours of dark plum, black cherry, liquorice and spice followed by a blackpepper back palate displaying a joosy texture and flavour profile. Fine grained almost velvet like tannins with very long blackpepper, spice, liquorice and very ripe raspberry aftertaste. A fantastic effort offering great value for money.
