Robert Parker describes Torbreck winemaker David Powell as “unquestionably one of the world’s finest producers” having “an uncanny ability to discover old vine Barossa vineyards and then secure long term contracts for the fruit”. The vineyards are composed of 44 year old Eden Valley vines and 80 year old Barossa Shiraz vines. The Eden Valley fruit for this wine is grown on high altitude vineyards some 400-500 metres above sea-level, which results in the Shiraz fruit ripening 1-2 weeks later than fruit grown on the Valley floor.
“unquestionably one of the world’s finest producers”
Very deep, almost opaque black crimson colour with black crimson purple hue. Perfumed top note of violet, spice, blackberry and vanilla. On the palate, flavours of plum and spice are overlaid with black pepper and liquorice. The Eden Valley Shiraz component gives the wines a sense of elegance. Fine grained, perfectly balanced tannins. Aftertaste of spice, plum and black pepper.
