2006 Penny's Hill Shiraz

2006 continued the impressive run of outstanding vintages in McLaren Vale – near perfect conditions resulted in fruit with optimal ripeness and flavour profiles. In order to maximise complexity and final blending options fruit was harvested in individual parcels on different days with each parcel being matured separately in a combination of new and one year old American & French oak casks for a period of 20 months.

Very deep black crimson colour with black crimson hue, showing strong cling to the glass. Lifted nose – a delight just to sniff – violets, vanilla, liquorice allsorts and ripe blackberry. The palate has all the qualities that one looks for – classic ‘joosy; texture with generous flavours of ripe blackberry, liquorice allsorts, confectionary and spice. Fine grained tannins, perfectly balanced. Very long spice and confectionary aftertaste.
