The 2006 Vintage produced a modest crop of Pinot showing concentration of flavours and ripe phenolics. Several clones were used to produce this superb wine including 10/5 Pinot Noir, as well as newer plantings of Dijon clones 115, 777 and 667. Fermentation took place in traditional open fermenters with 12 months barrel maturation in French oak.

Winemaker Allan Johnson has produced a magnificent example of Martinborough Pinot.

Medium body, crimson colour with crimson hue. The nose displays strong varietal character. Perfumed, with black cherry, violet and spice top notes followed by some toasted oak, spice and liquorice. The palate delivers loads of varietal flavour (make sure your seat belt is fastened!) Excellent palate weight and long power wave displaying flavours of spice, liquorice, mocha and black cherry are followed by a smokey overlay. Fine slightly chalky, but balanced tannins. Very long aftertaste of spice, blackberry and liquorice.
