Derived from the fact Jim Barry purchased 70 acres of prime land from Duncan McRae Wood. It was on this land that Jim Barry planted his first vineyard with Shiraz.

Less the reputation and price tag of Jim Barry' flagship wine, 'The Armagh', the McRae Wood is consistently outstanding and just as worthy of attention.

Displaying a totally opaque black crimson colour with black heart and very deep black dark red hue. Aromatically intense, the nose boasts lifted scents of ripe blackberry, liquorice, aniseed and confectionary followed by a hint of mint as an end note. Bold, rich and concentrated the palate delivers mouthfilling flavours of liquorice, aniseed, blackberry and confectionary with a light spearmint overlay. Velvet smooth tannins, excellent length and a fleshy mouthfeel with long aftertaste of liquorice, blackberry, confectionary and spearmint.
Cellar 4-5 years (2015-2016)
Alc 15.5%
