2006 Hidden Spirits Aultmore 12 Year Old Cask Strength Single Malt Scotch Whisky (700ml)

After spending most of its life in x Bourbon wood, bottler, Andrea Ferrari finished this whisky for 28 months in Franca Contea red wine casks. The winery is located at the foothills of the Italian alps near Bergamo. Here the reds are predominantly of the Merlot variety. The result has been described as "grippy and intense" with aromas of spiced relish, roses and tart red fruit. There's also a strawberry liqueur chocolate note that combines with the savoury character of the spirit. Distilled in 2006 and bottled in 2019 at 51.4% Alc./Vol.

Seasoned whisky taster, Charles MacLean considers Aultmore "One of his favourite makes". While it's some distance from Speyside proper, it produces a typical Speyside malt, with a high reputation among blenders who rank it 'Top Class'. Producing since 1895, after a patchy history the distillery was sold to Bacardi subsidiary, Dewars, who offered the first ever official bottling in 2004.
