2005 Yellow Tail Merlot

Yellow Tail is Australia’s most successful wine export, selling millions of cases, particularly in the USA. One could be condescending and say that the Casella family got lucky – but let us say they got lucky because they worked hard and produced an excellent product at a price that a new generation of American drinkers could enjoy.

This is a great value for money Merlot. Medium body, with bright crimson colour and crimson mauve hue. The nose is very appealing, with aroma of spice and mulberry delivering a perfumed sniff not expected from a wine at this price. The palate has good weight filled with ‘Australian Sunshine’. Flavours of mulberry, raspberry and a hint of liquorice emerge. Spicy back palate. Great everyday drinking.
