Winemaker Wayne Thomas has recently been crowned McLaren Vale 'Bushing King' for the second time in three years. Wayne received the prestigious award after his 2005 Wayne Thomas Shiraz was judged the best wine at the McLaren Vale Wine Show. This was no mean feat considering that a record 8% of the 600 plus wines entered in the competition this year received a gold medal, confirming McLaren Vale's reputation as a world class Shiraz region. Wayne offers a simple formula for his success: 'Winemaking is 90 percent common sense and 10 percent arse. It all starts in the vineyard, you've got to have a good grape grower and also pick and bottle at the right time. It was a team effort between myself, my assistant winemaker Tim Geddes and my wife Bev.' This is indeed a magnificent Shiraz, worthy of McLaren Vale's most respected accolade.

This is indeed a magnificent Shiraz Totally opaque black in colour with black crimson hue. The wine clings to the walls of the glass. Top note of vanilla, spice, liquorice and blackberry. Voluptuous, mouthfilling palate – excellent weight. Strong flavours of black pepper, black cherry, spice and blackberry emerge. Fine grained tannins, perfect balance, followed by very long aftertaste of liquorice, blackberry, dark chocolate and vanilla.
Cellar 4-5 years (2010-2011)
