The Yacca Paddock vineyards are owned by award winning film makers Scott Hicks and Kerry Heysen-Hicks. Two of the districts leading personalities are in the background, Geoff Hardy who manages the vineyard and Ben Riggs, who not only makes Yacca Paddock wines but also sources fruit from here for his own label. Opaque black crimson colour with crimson hue. Top note of dark cherry, spice and liquorice, delivering a perfumed lift. The palate has good weight and persistence, supported by fine grained tannins, with flavours of cherry and confectionary. Warm, spicy back palate.
Cellar 3-4 years (2010-2011)
Alc/Vol: 15%

First Tasted, July 2007: Very deep crimson colour with deep crimson hue. Top note of spice, followed by a touch of new leather, black cherry and cedar. The palate needs some time to evolve, yet in its youth this wine has much better structure and flavour profile than many Tempranillo's that find their way into the market. The fine dry tannins support flavours of leather, arrowroot biscuit (an unusual twist) and dark cherry. The back palate is very spicy. Long aftertaste of leather, black pepper and spice. Winemaker Ben Riggs regards this as a food wine rather than a sipper, and tells us that the Tempranillo is his current ‘House wine’.
