The vines that were used to produce grapes for the Bogan were planted in 1899 and 1965, with the wine being matured for 15 months in French and American oak. Totally opaque, black crimson colour with black crimson purple hue. Top note of violets, spice, blackberry juice and vanilla. The palate is big, mouthfilling, with flavours of liquorice and blackberry overlaid with vanilla oak. The voluptuous quality of the palate is almost overwhelming. Soft tannin structure. Aftertaste of liquorice, blackberry, vanilla and spice.Cellar 2-3 years (2009-2010) Alc/Vol: 16.0%
Aged in new and one-year-old American oak, and made in a completely different style, the 2005 Shiraz The Bogan (from 25- to 105-year-old vines) is a dense purple-colored effort displaying an exuberant nose of toast, blackberries, cassis, cherries, and damp earth. It is full-bodied and powerful with fabulous purity and texture as well as a blockbuster finish. This is a classic example of Barossa Shiraz at its finest. Enjoy it over the next 12-15 years.96 pointsRobert Parker – The Wine Advocate
