Creating a business with a group of friends who are all leading South Australian wine identities that are passionate about wine is fraught with danger. The potential for disagreements and clashes of ego are enormous, however, the people behind Heartland have made the company work. The success seems to be due to a couple of factors, firstly the seven individuals all have different skills, which are complimentary to each other, and are necessary for any wine company. Secondly, individual success is highly unlikely, making the collective effort the only logical outcome in this highly competitive market.

"Full bodied & 'Joosy'. Another Brilliant Effort from Heartland By Ben Glaetzer."

We first tried this wine a few days after bottling (something one should never do, as the wines suffer from bottle shock), however, decisions had to be made. The first taste was good but not as impressive as the 2004. At the time of re-tasting the wine had had approximately four weeks bottle age, and had recovered its flavour profile on the palate. Opaque black crimson colour with black purple hue, showing excellent cling to the glass. Very impressive nose with aromas of liquorice, spice, blackberry and black pepper. The voluptuous nature of the palate is now evident and will continue to build. Full bodied and ‘joosy’ with flavours of vanilla, plum and spice. Fine grained tannins, perfect balance. Very long aftertaste of spice, blackberry and liquorice.
