In the 19th century Chateau Rayne Vigneau was regarded as second only to Chateau d’Yquem. However, it fell into a period of neglect and it wasn’t until the 1980’s that the vineyard began a revival in quality. Generally considered to be a more delicate style in comparison to many of it’s Sauternes counterparts, in recent vintages the Chateau has employed a greater percentage of Semillon in the final blend resulting in wines of greater body, mouthfeel and texture. The vineyard is 80 hectares in size, it’s plantings consisting of 74% Semillon, 24% Sauvignon Blanc and 2% Muscadelle. Fermentation takes place in both barrel and stainless-steel vats and is then aged for between 18 and 24 months in oak (50% new).

Other Reviews….
Apple sauce, honey and cream aromas follow through to a full-bodied palate, with lots of sweetness. Spicy. Best from here in a long time.
