Potentially one of the very best to date from Cape Mentelle. The 2005 vintage in Margaret River experienced a wide range of climatic conditions: "from kind blamy mild days with a gentle zephyr of a breeze to angry days with sleeting rain, below average temperatures and more wind than Mr.Bean at a baked bean convention." The viticulturalists at Cape Mentelle ultimately triumphed and winemaker, Simon Burnell has consummated a superb example of the style. Bright pale straw colour with water like hue. Grassy, herbaceous top notes, followed by a rare flavour of perfectly ripened gooseberries. A portion of this wine have been barrel fermented, thereby adding to the layer of complexity on the palate. The palate reveals flavours of unripe gooseberry, followed by a hint of confectionary and tropical fruit. Clean acid finish, with long aftertaste of perfectly ripened gooseberries. Cellar 2-3 years (2007-2008) Alc/Vol: 13.5% Other Reviews...High-toned, intensely aromatic fruit, with the faintest touch of sweatiness; follows up in the mouth with appropriate length and power.Rating 93Drink 2008"James Halliday - 2007 Australian Wine Companion"
