Located in close proximity to some of Clarendon Hills vineyards in the McLaren Vale sub region of Blewitt Springs, the Brini vineyard was established by Italian immigrant Sebastiano Brini in the 1950’s. Initially the focus was solely on grape growing and supplying fruit to many of Australia’s most well respected wineries - it wasn’t until 2000 that Sebastiano's sons John and Marcello turned their hand to wine production with their wines quickly gaining critical acclaim, the like’s of James Halliday stating ‘“skilled winemaking, coupled with impeccable fruit sources has resulted in a new star in the McLaren Vale firmament.”

An excellent follow up to the outstanding 2004 Sebastian Shiraz!

The wine was matured in a combination of French (45%) and American (55%) oak hogsheads for an average of 18+ months. The oak regime was approximately one third new, one third one year old, then one third 2 to 4 year old oak. The wine displays excellent colour – black purple with black purple hue – being almost opaque. Superb nose of vanilla, violets, spice and blackberry. Excellent weight, with flavours of liquorice, vanilla and blackberry being dominant. The structure is tighter than the 2004, but nonetheless, this is an impressive red. Spicy back palate. Fine grained tannins. Aftertaste of vanilla and blackberry.
Cellar 3-4 years (2011-2012)
