The Cumming family have farmed in the Bendigo district for 50 years and have seen many agricultural peaks and troughs. Last season, the family gave up tomato growing, the price per box was unsustainable (that effectively puts an end to our Christmas present!) The first 20 acres of vines were planted in 1970 and today more than 100 acres are under vines. Over the last decade, Peter Cumming unlike many of his fellow winemakers, has kept the price of Water Wheel Shiraz at the mid-teens price point, aiming at a fair price for an exceptional value for money red. By making it one of the best wine buys ensured that when the glut came, those same customers remained loyal.

A classic Waterwheel Shiraz

Opaque black crimson colour with black crimson hue. The nose displays an abundance of ripe spicy Shiraz characteristics - ripe blackberry top notes followed by spice, liquorice allsorts and blackcurrant. Generous palate weight - full bodied, with mouthfilling flavours of coffee, mocha and liquorice over a background of ripe plum, blackberry and spice. Delightful 'joosy' mouthfeel. Soft tannins. Very long aftertaste of spice, plum and liquorice. Outstanding value for money and awarded a Gold Medal at the Royal Melbourne Show.
Cellar 3-4 years (2009-2010)
Alc/Vol: 15.5%

Other Reviews...
Good colour; supple but complex medium- to full-bodied palate; classic Bendigo / Central Victorian Shiraz, rich in fruit.  Doesn't really show its alcohol.

Other Reviews...
The deep ruby/purple-tinged, dense, rich 2004 Shiraz offers plenty of earthy, meaty notes intertwined with grilled Provencal herbs, blackberries, and cherries. It should be consumed over the next 3-4 years.
89 points.
