A wonderful follow up to the superb 2003 Durif. A total black saturate of colour with dense purple black hue – and as with all of Andrew Sutherland Smith’s reds, the wine clings to the side of the glass just as rust does to steel. Intense, very ripe nose of dark chocolate, liquorice, morello cherry, toasted oak and spice. The palate delivers an explosive flavour profile, yet in spite of its 16.5% Alc/Vol there is no hot or burning sensation on the back palate. Flavours of spice, blackberry, cherry concentrate and liquorice fill the mouth. Totally mouthfilling. Fine, dry, perfectly balanced tannins. Very long aftertaste of blackberry, liquorice, dark chocolate, black cherry and spice.
