Being the first commercial vineyard & winery to be established in MargaretRiver, Vasse Felix has been at the forefront in establishing the regions reputation as Australia’s leading producer of Bordeaux style Cabernet blends. Made from a blend of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Merlot and 4% Malbec the wine was matured in a combination of 46% new and 54% old (1,2 and 3 year old) French Oak for 16 months.

The 2004 vintage in MargaretRiver was near perfect for reds and whites in terms of both quality and yield. A cool spring/summer promoted slow growth and highly concentrated fruit flavours followed by a long warm late Autumn ensuring ideal sugar/acid/alcohol ratios and optimal ripeness.

An excellent example of Margaret River Cabernet with considerable cellaring potential.

Opaque black crimson colour with black purple hue. Aroma of violets, cedar and cigar box followed by a hint of cassis, showing plenty of ripe Cabernet fruit. There is an acceptable hint of stalk emerging as an end note. The palate is tightly knit and supported by an excellent tannin structure. Flavours of spice and black pepper are followed by cassis and a hint of liquorice. Excellent length and depth. Very long aftertaste of black pepper and cassis.
Cellar 5-8 years (2011-2014)
Alc/Vol: 14%

Other reviews...
Tiny dollops of Malbec and Merlot are included in the 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon, a Bordeaux-like red offering up superb aromas of black currants, cedar, licorice, and new oak. Opaque ruby/purple-colored and medium-bodied with good acidity, intensity, and purity, it should drink well for 10-12 years.
90 points.
