This is the first release of Sevenhill’s flagship Shiraz and it’s named in honour of the legendary Brother John May who has completed over 40 vintages at Sevenhill since his first vintage in 1963. The fruit was sourced from Sevenhill’s Brother Dan vineyard recognised for producing high-quality Shiraz from old low-yielding vines that were planted by Brother John May in his very early days at Sevenhill.
Made with minimal intervention, including hand plunging in open slate fermenters and basket pressing, it was left on skins for 10 days to extract maximum flavour and colour. The wine was matured for 18 months in new French oak. Only the finest barrels were selected for the final blend and the wine was given more than two years bottle age before being released.

A Sensational Red, celebrating 40 years of winemaking by Brother John May.

Totally opaque black purple colour with black purple hue. Wonderfully perfumed nose – layers of violets, vanilla and confectionary over blackberry, ripe plum and liquorice. Totally balanced, complex and mouthfilling palate, layers of liquorice allsorts, vanilla, plum, spice and confectionary over a refined blackberry layer. Velvet smooth tannins. Exceptionally long aftertaste of liquorice allsorts, spice and confectionary. A triumph for Sevenhill!
