John and Leonie Salmons established their 1.6 hectares (four acres) vineyard in 1991 by planting 5000 vines on a North facing block at Red Hill, composed of deep, well drained basalt soils. Needless to say, the pair are Pinotphiles, determined to produce wine that breaks into the stratosphere. ‘Serious Pinot lovers feel that the sensory experience of a good Pinot can elevate one to another level, analogous in music, literature or art say as Musak is to Mozart, Pot Boiler to Proust or Graffiti to Griotto.’ Now experience the taste test!

An impressive Pinot with more depth and flavour than the standard Rahona Valley Pinot. Medium body, deep crimson colour with deep mauve hue. Lifted nose of spice, followed by a hint of game with strawberry and spice end notes. On the palate, there is a controlled hint of stalk followed by flavours of black cherry and strawberry supported by soft tannins. Very good power wave. Long aftertaste of spice and strawberry.
Cellar 4-5 years (2010-2011)
Alc/Vol: 13.9%

Other reviews...
Similar colour to the standard line Pinot Noir; despite fractionally lower alcohol, has distinctly more fruit, with a mix of plum and black cherry; good line and length. Drink 2011.
