2004 Pol Roger Sir Winston Churchill Champagne

Only produced in the very best vintage years Pol Roger’s Winston Churchill is sourced exclusively from Grand Cru Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vineyards with the Pinot being the dominate variety in the blend.

A rich, full bodied Champagne possessing remarkable length and power.

Excellent creamy white mousse with a very pale gold base wine colour. The bead exceptionally fine and very persistent. Outstanding nose with hedonistically complex aromatics of toast, baked bread, pear and yeast lees bounding from the glass. Almonds, hints of dried honey and citrus follow on. Rich, weighty and sophisticated the palate has mouthfilling flavours of yeast lees, baked bread, roasted almonds, citrus, toast, dried honey and oily cashews. Rich oily mouthfeel displaying magnificent concentration and power. Crisp, yet creamy finish with a very long aftertaste of yeast lees, oily toast like characters, baked bread, dried honey, citrus, almonds and cashew. Sir Winston Churchill would be very pleased with this outstanding effort.

Pol was Churchill’s house Champagne. It is predominantly pinot noir (no meunier), and all the vineyards are Grand Cru and in bearing in Churchill’s lifetime. The wine has slippery acidity and literally soars with its amazing concentration and complexity, the length and aftertaste second to none other than Krug.
