2004 Nepenthe Zinfandel

This is the second time we have looked at this wine and we are not impressed. Translucent crimson colour with crimson hue. Delicate leather and stewed fruit nose showing little varietal character. The palate flavours are on the light side with dry stewed fruit and spice. No varietal character is evident. Stewed fruit aftertaste.

First Tasted 17th April, 2008;
Semi translucent, brick red colour with brick red hue – very advanced for its years, the nose is very restrained, with delicate spice top note followed by a delicate light leather end note. The palate flavours are light, and show no varietal character or power. Some spiciness emerges. A light red at best – and certainly does not live up to its back label description as “rich, ripe and powerful”
