A Rufus Stone Shiraz from McLaren Vale that almost rivals the Heathcote counterpart. Produced from 35 year old vines. Due to poor fruit set yields were down by as much as 50%, but there was no lack in quality. The wine was matured in a combination of French & Amercian oak (new, one & two year old barriques) for a period of 15 months and the final blend includes a 5% Malbec component.
Totally opaque black purple colour with deep purple hue. Aroma of liquorice, plum, spice and vanilla, showing both distinct varietal and regional character. The palate is generous, with typical McLaren Vale ‘joosy’ character emerging. Flavours of plum, blackberry, spice and black pepper emerge. Fine, dry but chalky tannins, followed by a persistent aftertaste of plum and spice.
Cellar 4-5 years (2009-2010)
Alc/Vol: 14.5%
