2003 Stoneygate Shiraz

The Stoneygate Vineyard is located at South Mandurang, in the Bendigo district. The colour is surprisingly light given that the wine has been made from grapes grown at 1 ½ tonnes per acre. Deep crimson colour with mauve hue. Medium body and without the colour saturation that is common to wines from this region. The nose is quite simple, with flavours of stewed plum and spice. The palate therefore comes as a bit of a surprise, revealing fuller weight and mouth feel than either the nose or the colour suggests. Flavours of mint, roasted coffee beans and cherry flavours emerge. Soft tannins. Aftertaste of coffee, cherry and chocolate.
