2003 Somerbury Estate Jones Road Cabernet Merlot

A fully ripened Cabernet from the Mornington Peninsula is indeed a rare occurrence since the varietal is very difficult to ripen in this marginal climate.Very deep crimson black colour with deep crimson mauve hue. The nose is quite distinctive, showing strong varietal character. Aroma of blackcurrant, mulberry, followed by spice and cedar endnote. There is no hint of greenness on the palate – only the flavours of ripe blackcurrant, plum, spice, and cedar. Fine dry, slightly chalky tannins followed by a very long spice and blackcurrant aftertaste.
