Full bodied and rich the palate still possesses plenty of lively fruit with traces of leather only now just beginning to emerge. Opulent flavours of dark chocolate, liquorice, mocha and blackberry with a spicy back palate. Soft plush texture with velvet smooth tannins and aftertaste of blackberry, mocha, liquorice and spice.

First Tasted May 2005:
A superb Shiraz with all the classic McLaren Vale characteristics. Opaque, black crimson colour with deep crimson hue. The nose delivers a magnificent sniff, with aromas of violets, blackberry, spice and vanilla. The palate is everything that one wants to experience in a top McLaren Vale red. Mouthfilling, with joosy ripe flavours of liquorice, cedar, blackberry, ripe plum and vanilla. The palate has both weight and depth of flavour. Fine, dry tannins, perfectly balanced. Very long aftertaste of blackberry, liquorice, vanilla and spice.

Other Reviews...

Fashioned from 100% Shiraz from the estate vineyards, the 2003 Shiraz spent 22 months in mostly French oak (one-third new). Its dense ruby/purple color is accompanied by a big, projected nose of truffles, blackberries, barbecue smoke, and spice box. With superb richness, an opulent, full-bodied palate, outstanding purity, and a long, layered finish, this well-balanced blockbuster is ideal for drinking over the next 5-8 years.
