The Longwood Vineyard was planted in 1969 by Andrew Cameron, after a challenge he received whilst dining in Bordeaux. As the story goes, Andrew took a sample of dirt across to Eric Purbrick of Chateau Tahbilk, who considered that it would be suitable for the production of Shiraz and Cabernet. The Strathbogie Ranges being elevated, are cooler viticulturally than the Goulburn Valley, so its hardly surprising that intense, white pepper filled Shiraz is produced. Wine making is done by Sam Plunkett.
Opaque black crimson colour with deep crimson hue. Aroma of violets, plum, blackcurrant and confectionary, showing good varietal character. The palate has elegance and style, with flavours of white pepper, plum, spice and mint evident. Fine, dry tannins. Aftertaste of plum, stewed plum, black cherry, spice and mint.
Cellar 3-4 years (2008-2009)
