The Heathcote Estate is located next door to Ron Laughton’s Jasper Hill, in Drummond Lane. The vineyard is a joint venture between Robert Kirby (Village Roadshow) and Louis Bialkower (the lawyer who founded Yarra Ridge, before selling out to Mildara).

The wine finished its fermentation in 95% French oak/5% American oak, 40% of which was new. It then underwent malo in barrel and remained in oak for 18 months. During this time it was racked 3 times then filtered and bottled in November 2004.

The quality of this wine has improved considerably, reflecting the more mature nature of the vines. Totally opaque black purple colour with black purple hue. The nose is filled with aromas of cedar, vanilla and freshly crushed blackberry, followed by a violet endnote. Mouthfilling palate structure, with flavours of black pepper, spice, blackberry, plum and liquorice emerging. The tannins are dry and quite persistent but balanced for the rich ripe fruit. Long aftertaste of black pepper and blackberry.
