2003 Greenock Creek Alice's Block Shiraz

Barossa Valley, South Australia, AUSTRALIA
$59. 99
Bottle
$719.88 Dozen
ABV: 16.5%
Closure: Cork

Tasted 16/06/2017:  Impenetrable black as night core with a deep very dark red black hue. Heady aromas of blackberry liqueur, liquorice and dark chocolate waft from the glass overlaying toasty vanillin oak, hints of earthy leather and spicy fennel. Thick, heavy and super concentrated, this red is at the big end of town. A tsunami of rich blackberry, liquorice, black cherry liqueur and black plum flavours smash the palate with vanillin oak, earthy leather and spice characters ensuing. Velvety tannins. There’s a good dose of heat on the finish but if you can handle that and like your reds massively proportioned then you’ll love this. Very long aftertaste of liquorice, black cherry liqueur, black plums, vanillin oak, old leather and spice. An enormously powerful and voluptuously textured Barossa Shiraz with the lofty alcohol seemingly having acted as a fortifying agent to persevere the purity of the fruit.

Other Reviews...

A wine of great nobility, purity, texture, and layers of flavor. While it possesses phenomenal power as well as richness, it carries itself with extraordinary elegance and finesse. The whopping 16.5% alcohol is beautifully incorporated into this massive, but impeccably well-balanced Shiraz.
Drink it over the next 12-15 years.
