The 2002 McLaren Vale Reds continue to impress both for their depth and concentration of flavour. The new release Wirra Wirra McLaren Vale Shiraz is denser than the 2001 and will need more time to fully evolve. Opaque crimson colour with crimson hue. Scented nose of violets, plum, confectionary, vanilla, spice and chocolate. The palate is mouth filling with distinct flavours of plum, blackberry, vanilla, liquorice and spice overlaid with smoky oak. The length needs time to fully blossom, however, the fine grained dry tannins will ensure longevity. Aftertaste of spice, black pepper, liquorice, plum and vanilla.

The 2002 vintage is delivering exceptional wines with distinctive palate structure that will enable them to be cellared longer than the 2001 wines. The 2002 Wirra Wirra Shiraz is one such wine. Totally opaque black purple mauve colour. The nose is superb, showing excellent lifted character. Intense violet top note, followed by notes of black pepper, blackberry, vanilla and spice. The palate flavours are mouthfilling yet quite firmly structured. Layers of cedar, spice, liquorice and plum followed by a black pepper back palate with very warm spicy finish, reflecting nuances of white pepper, liquorice, plum and cedar.
