This outstanding wine was produced from low yielding Cabernet vines grown on that magic Cambrian earth that is so highly sought after in the Heathcote district. The viticulturist and part owner of Toolleen Vineyard is the highly vocal Tom Krakowski. Tom’s wine experience is highly regarded amongst those who know him, having been Sommelier of University House at the University of Melbourne. Many people find Tom’s direct no-nonsense approach to life abrasive, however, let us say this, after a meeting with Tom, you certainly know his mind – he doesn’t mince words, tells it as he sees it, warts and all. Sadly there are too few people in the wine or even wider community with the courage to articulate their minds. Tom would never make a diplomat but so what? Tom works hard and produces outstanding fruit, most of the wines produced are exported to Asia.

This is not your elegant Cabernet, but it is not a blob either. The fruit is forceful and very concentrated. Opaque black crimson colour with deep crimson hue. Beautifully perfumed nose of violets, cassis, blackcurrant and spice. Mouthfilling palate with concentrated flavours of blackcurrant and chocolate followed by a white pepper back palate. Excellent muscular body weight, with very fine grained tannins which are assertive yet balanced. Very long aftertaste of spice, black pepper and blackcurrant.
Cellar 10-12 years (2014-2016)
Alc/Vol: 14.0%
