...the most profound expression to date.

The grapes were sourced from old vines from both the Barossa and Eden Valleys all of which were over 60 years old and up to 120 years old. Since the mid-eighties the Old Block has been defined by the balancing attributes of the warmer Barossa Valley and the higher altitude Eden Valley which flanks to the east. The Barossa Valley provides the fundamental core of concentrated fruit density, whilst the Eden Valley adds a floral lift, some savoury texture and mineral intensity. The 2002 shows the most profound expression of ‘east meets west’ to date. A magnificent Old Block Shiraz. Totally opaque black crimson colour with deep crimson hue. A superb aromatic, sophisticated wine. Top note of violets, followed by spice, vanilla and mocha, with a touch of cigar box. The palate has excellent weight and mouthfeel. Flavours of vanilla and white pepper abound over dark chocolate, blackberry and spice. The white pepper flavour characteristic is strong and runs through the back palate and aftertaste, enhancing the ripe plum and plum pudding back palate flavours. Fine grained tannins. Aftertaste of dark chocolate and liquorice allsorts.
