2002 Pol Roger Vintage Champagne

The 2002 Vintage Champagne from Pol Roger is made from the traditional house vintage blend of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay sourced from 20 Grands and Premiers crus vineyards in the “montagne de Reims”  and the “côte des blancs”. It has been aged for 9 years in Pol Roger's cellars before being released.

Excellent white frothy mousse which once dissipated reveals a straw pale gold coloured base wine and fine, persistent bead. Classic Pol Roger bouquet includes scents of toast, baked bread and yeast lees followed by some roasted almond like characteristics and brioche. Full palate flavours are complemented by a creamy mouthfeel - yeast lees with a toasty overlay and some cashew / roast almond like back palate flavours. Superb depth and persistence. Crisp dry finish with very long baked bread, yeast lees, toast and roast almond aftertaste.
Drink now or cellar 5-6 years (2012-2018).

The confidence of pinot noir leads here, providing sensational dimension to the Pol Roger house style of supreme refinement. Taut citrus zest, lemon sherbet and yellow plums are set with delightful juxtaposition against the depth of almost a decade in particularly cold cellars, building wonderful tension between subtle complexity and exacting purity. Minerality is pronounced, with wonderful, driving persistence of finely poised chalk texture.
