2002 was a very cool year in Coonawarra, and certainly not a vintage to be caught over cropping. According to Petaluma, the total heat summation for the growing period was 1101 ºC days as compared with an average of 1414 ºC. The result is that this is the smallest Petaluma crop on record. The blend consists of 51% Cabernet Sauvignon and 49% Merlot with only the ripest grapes being selected. Very deep, almost opaque black crimson colour with deep crimson hue. Aroma of cedar, mulberry, blackcurrant and spice. The structure is refined, with fine, dry, slightly chalky but balanced tannins. Some toasted oak is evident with cedar, mulberry and blackcurrant palate flavours, which continue into the aftertaste.
