Mount Burrumboot Estate is located on the slopes of Mount Burrumboot on the Mount Camel Range, north of Heathcote. Owned by Cathy and Andrew Branson, the property is renowned for top quality lambs and the district’s best barley. This prompted the couple to ask themselves, “Why then could it not produce the regions best wine?“. Consequently, in 1999 vines were planted on the property. To quote Cathy, "You would never lose your perspective here – it’s hard to get full of yourself as a winemaker, when you gaze over the rest of the farm and see the hard work of generations past and current. One minute you’re tasting and showing your wines to an appreciative audience, the next you’re pulling a lamb or digging post holes. Very levelling".
TASTING NOTES: An outstanding fruit filled wine. Totally black crimson colour. Superb nose with aroma of spice, liquorice, plum and cedar. The palate is packed with primary fruit flavours but has not developed layers of complexity at this stage. Mouthfilling flavours of spice, blackpepper and plum showing typical big Heathcote ‘joosy’ Shiraz flavour, followed by layers of plum, spice and chocolate. Excellent length, fine dry tannins with very long blackberry, plum and spice aftertaste.
Cellar 3-4 years (2006-2007)
