An outstanding McLaren Vale red.

We were first introduced to this wine in 2004. Since then Koltz has been building a reputation as a cult Shiraz producer. The first vintage was 1995 when winemakers Mark Day and Anna Koltunow made a Shiraz wine from grapes grown at the Bottin Vineyard in McLaren Vale. Mark Day had previously worked as winemaker for Wirra Wirra and Maxwell Wines so it’s hardly a surprise that his wines show distinctive regional character, reflecting the couple's philosophy that wines should be complex but a pleasure to drink at any stage of their evolution.
Six years on from our first tasting, this wine is blossoming beautifully.

Retasted 26/02/11...
The colour is holding up exceptionally well displaying an opaque black crimson with deep dark red hue. The nose displays a perfumed aromatic profile of blackberry and black plum followed by some liquorice allsorts, confectionary and spice notes showing excellent lift. Voluptuous fruit engulfs the palate delivering flavours of liquorice and ripe blackberry followed by some dark plum and spice with a peppery back palate. Opulently textured with fine grained tannin structure. Superb depth with long aftertaste of liquorice, blackberry and blackpepper.
